70MM SCREENING: STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN

Director: Nicholas Meyer

113 minutes, U.S.A., 1982, Colour, 70mm

Genetically-engineered tyrant Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalbán), having been exiled by Captain Kirk 15 years earlier, is hell-bent on revenge against the Enterprise and her crew following his escape. On discovery of the existence of the Genesis project, a technology meant to create habitable planets, Khan immediately realises its potential as a weapon.

Easily accessible to newcomers to the Star Trek universe, the film is also a firm fan favourite, filled with some of the franchise’s most memorable moments. Khan himself proved a popular enough character to be revived by Benedict Cumberbatch for J.J. Abrams’ recent Star Trek: Into Darkness. (Notes by Kevin Coyne.)
