ARCHIVE AT LUNCHTIME (DOUBLE BILL) (FREE EVENT)

Director: JON BANG CARLSEN

Join us for FREE screenings of films from the IFI Irish Film Archive. This month: innovative Danish filmmaker Jon Bang Carslen attends the IFI Stranger Than Fiction Documentary Film Festival, to discuss his catalogue of Irish films. Here we present his two shorter films:

PROGRAMME 1: MY IRISH DIARY/MIN IRSKE DAGBOG

Re-visiting Carlsen’s record of the year that his young son spent as a visitor at the village school in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare learning English, Irish and religion, and making friends with local children.

FILM INFO: 28 minutes, 1996

PROGRAMME 2: THROUGH IRISH EYES

Never before seen in Ireland, Carlsen describes this short essay film as “talking heads from the past talking about a future of yesterday.” At a gathering in a Dalkey hotel, Patrick Bergin, his brother Alan, Father Tom Stack, Brendan Dempsey, the late Michael Davitt and Aine O’Connor attempt to define Irishness.

FILM INFO: 26 minutes, 1998
