IFI FAMILY: THE KID

Director: Charlie Chaplin

68 minutes, U.S.A., 1921, Comedy/Drama/Family

This film screened on Sunday 27th  September 2015.

This month at the IFI there’s a chance to see some films from the best of silent comedians: Buster Keaton in Steamboat Bill, Jr. and this Charlie Chaplin classic showing for IFI Family.

As The Tramp, Chaplin takes an abandoned young boy into his care, training him in a profitable scam of breaking windows so that he can mend them. Meanwhile the kid’s mother decides to look for him, and the pair end up on the run, sought after by the police, the authorities, the mother and a hotel owner seeking the reward.

Hilarious moments blend with emotion and drama, confirming Chaplin’s comic genius.
