LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE

Director: Jonathan Dayton, Valeria Faris

101 minutes, U.S.A., 2006, Adventure/Comedy/Drama

This much-loved indie film tells of an oddball family who journey in a beat-up Volkswagen van to a Californian children’s beauty pageant. Seven-year-old Olive is determined to compete despite her non-beauty pageant ways. Her misguided parents bring her, along with her suicidal uncle, her Nietzschean brother and her addict grandfather (an Oscar-winning performance by Alan Arkin). Coming together in support of Olive, they start to look at their lives differently.

Showing as part of Wild Strawberries & Bealtaine 2012.
