IFI FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL 2021: TRALALA

Director: Arnaud Larrieu, Jean-Marie Larrieu

120 mins, France, 2021, Subtitled, Digital

Mathieu Amalric stars as Tralala, a modern-day troubadour on the streets of Paris. One night he meets a beautiful young woman who gives him an enigmatic message before disappearing: ‘above all, don’t be yourself’. Was it a dream, or a vision? The impoverished busker leaves the capital and ends up finding in Lourdes the woman he’s already in love with, however, she doesn’t remember him. Hotelier Lili mistakes Tralala for Pat, her son who went missing in the USA some twenty years ago. The singer decides to take on the role of Pat, in the process finding for himself a new family and discovering a genius he never knew he had. DOM

Director’s note: Fanciful heart-winning musical comedy; a poetic, tender fantasy; a stream of random encounters saturated in colour and light. Oh, and the wonderful Amalric!

Screening as part of the IFI French Film Festival 2021, November 17 – 28.
