WILD STRAWBERRIES: PRIVATE PEACEFUL

Director: Pat O’Connor

100 minutes, U.K., 2012, Drama

Wild Strawberries is our bimonthly film club for the over 55s.

This adaptation of a Michael Morpurgo novel is directed by Pat O’Connor (Dancing at Lughnasa, The Ballroom of Romance). A companion piece to War Horse, recently adapted by Steven Spielberg, it is set during World War 1 and centres on two brothers, Tommo and Charlie Peaceful, and local girl Molly, with the story told to us by Tommo as he reflects on events of his life to date from the trenches.

With nothing as extravagant a budget as War Horse, the film still manages to convey some of the intensity of life during wartime and how soldiers were treated by the regimes they served.

€3.85 per person including regular tea or coffee before the screening. Please note: Wild Strawberries is our film club for over 55s. If you are lucky enough to look younger, please don’t take offence if we ask your age.
