WILD STRAWBERRIES: WELCOME TO THE RILEYS

Director: JAKE SCOTT

110 minutes, 2010, Drama

Wild Strawberries is our bimonthly film club for the over 55s.

Fans of The Sopranos may not be aware that James Gandolfini (Tony) is also a fine actor away from his New Jersey mob too. In this well-played film, he’s a plumbing contractor whose unhappy marriage sees him seek comfort in the arms of a local waitress. When business takes him toNew Orleans, he wanders into a bar (Badda Bing, anyone?) where he encounters stripper Mallory.

The film takes unexpected turns and the performances are what pull it off: from Gandolfini himself who alternates from resigned to fatherly to determined and loving, to the fabulous Melissa Leo as his wife. Finally there’s Kristen Stewart – if you thought she could only do Twilight’s vampire-loving teen, well think again.

€3.85 including regular tea/coffee before the screening.

Also showing this month is Strictly Ballroom, which we are showing as part of The High Tea Hop, a day of cultural events in Temple Bar to get the active retired thinking and moving!
