Created in 1992, thanks to the financing from the
MEDIA Programme of the European Union and of the Centre
National de la Cinématographie, EUROPA CINEMAS
has become the first cinemas network with a mainly
European programming. The network provides a financial
support to cinemas that commit themselves to the programming
of a significant number of non-domestic European films
and to the organisation of promotional activities
concerning European films for young audiences.
The International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF)
brings together institutions dedicated to rescuing
films both as cultural heritage and as historical
documents.
The Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission's
Digital Film Archive (DFA) is an access resource for
researchers, students, historians, and anyone who
has an interest in moving images. The DFA contains
55 hours of moving images about Northern Ireland from
1897-2000. There are 389 items covering drama, animation,
documentaries, news, newsreels, amateur and actuality
film.
Irish Film & TV Research Online is a website designed
to bring together the wide diversity of research material
relating to Irish-made cinema and television as well
as to Irish-themed audio-visual representations produced
outside of Ireland. It incorporates three searchable
databases: Irish Film & Television Index; Irish
Film & Television Biographies; and Irish Film
& Television Bibliography; and the Irish Postgraduate
Film Research Seminar.
Cork Film Centre is a resource-based organisation,
focused on developing, promoting and facilitating
people working creatively in the medium of the moving
image.
The Galway Film Centre offers equipment, training,
information and post production facilities are provided
at non-commercial rates to independent filmmakers,
artists, community groups and educational facilities.
Cork Film Festival is an annual event offering screenings
across a wide spectrum of contemporary filmmaking
- feature films, documentaries, animation, short films,
experimental and student work. The festival is a major
showcase for Irish film production..
The Galway Film Fleadh, a six day international film
event held every July, welcomes a mad diversity of
film-making from around the world. The Fleadh is first
and foremost a film-makers festival and attracts directors,
actors, cinematographers and artists of all generations
and cultural backgrounds to present their work before
their peers and to a general audience of perceptive
critics.
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film
Board aims to ensure the continuity of production
and availability of Irish films to home and international
audiences. It provides loans and equity investment
to independent Irish film-makers to assist in the
development and production of Irish films.
Filmbase is a support organization for independent
film and video makers in Ireland. Filmbase fulfills
this role by facilitating Training & Development;
Facilities Hire, Information Services; Representation
& Lobbying for the low budget film sector. Filmbase
also publishes Film Ireland magazine and runs two
Short Film Award Schemes.
The Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission
is an integrated agency for the development of the
film industry and film culture in Northern Ireland.
It provides film and television producers from anywhere
in the world with all the assistance and information
they may need when considering filming in Northern
Ireland.
The Cinemobile,
one of the most adventurous projects of the National
Millennium Committee, is a magnificent, state-of-the-art
100-seater mobile cinema. With over 100,000 visitors
to date, the Cinemobile brings the magic of the
movies to your doorstep.

premier film information service. The award-winning
IFTN site is the most comprehensive directory ever
produced on the Irish Film and Television industry.

The bfi was established in 1933 to promote greater
understanding, appreciation and access to film and
television culture. They manage the largest film archive
in the world and are a world leader in film restoration
and preservation. The BFI runs the internationally
renowned National Film Theatre and London Film Festival,
the bfi IMAX Cinema, and the world's largest film
library and educational resource. The BFI also run
an extensive film education programme.
Film Ireland is a bi-monthly magazine looking at all
aspects of film and moving picture culture in Ireland.

Roger Doyle has worked extensively in theatre, film
and dance in particular with the music-theatre company
Operating Theatre which he co-founded with actress
Olwen Fouere. In 1990, he began his life's work BABEL
which would occupy him for 10 years. He is a member
of Aosdana, Ireland's state-sponsored academy of creative
artists.

The Irish Film Archive is one of the archives that have contributed material to the Europa Film Treasures project a Europe-wide video-on-demand platform bringing together content from 37 film archives and cinematheques across the continent. The project aims to make Europe’s film heritage available to a large an audience by employing new technologies and encourages European citizens to discover our shared cinematographic heritage.
