PROGRAMME 2 (PART 2)

Made for US TV audiences, hosted by legendary Walter Cronkite, “the most trusted man in America”, written by Irish novelist Elizabeth Bowen, and filmed by Bob Monks, these two programmes attempted to provide an accurate picture of life in Ireland in 1960. These programmes feature contributions from political and cultural figures – Éamon de Valera, Seán Lemass, Seán Ó Faoláin, Siobhán McKenna, Brendan Behan, Nora Connolly O’Brien, Sybil Connolly, and Barbara Dixon of The Irish Times – with visual images of urban and rural life, Dublin, Shannon, Mweenish, and Carna in the west of Ireland.
