IFI FAMILY: HUGO (3D)

Director: Martin Scorsese

127 minutes, U.K.-U.S.A., 2011, 3D

Imagine an orphan boy living alone in one of the grandest train stations in 1930s Paris, and think of the kind of mischief he could get up to! Legendary director Martin Scorsese surprised and delighted with this spectacular 3D family tale of adventure, magic and love of cinema.

Hugo spends his days minding the station clocks, avoiding the mean inspector and trying to find a key to unlock the automaton he inherited from his father. He makes friends with Isabelle, whose grumpy godfather turns out to be Georges Meliès, the inventor of film special effects. Thinking no one wanted his techniques, he had destroyed most of his films so the children combine forces to restore his reputation. Overlong but a must-see for those who love cinema, adventure or even to see how 3D can really make a difference.
