That’s the date of the oldest film footage preserved here in the IFI Irish Film Archive , a Lumière Brothers film of Dublin and Belfast. A treasure-trove of Ireland’s moving image heritage, the Archive contains over 26,000 cans of film that are held in our special purpose-built vaults where the temperature and humidity and are tightly controlled, ensuring that these priceless historical film reels will be around for future generations.
